This document first describes the problems faced by economic agents, the solutions they use and how legal institutions help to solve them. On this basis and with the help of real cases, it discusses how effectively Spanish economic institutions carry out this task. The theoretical analysis is developed in four stages: after analyzing the role of property rights and private contracting, the next sections focus on the role of legislative and judicial institutions.
