Economic Analysis of Business Law

Introduction to Law and Economics

Current Topics in Business Policy
This course aims to develop students’ capacity for (1) applying their knowledge to real cases, and for (2) communicating the conclusions obtained in a professional manner.

The course is based on assigned team projects on current business and economic cases, in which students are requested to apply the analytical instruments studied in all UPF bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Business.

During the first few weeks, “Socratic” classes will focus on discussing relevant theories, cases and methods to be used in the team projects. Students must study the reading texts beforehand and be ready to summarize the theories, discuss the key matters involved and analyze the cases.

During classes in the last weeks, the team projects will be presented and discussed. All students must actively participate in their assigned project, both in the study, public presentation and discussion, as well as in the preparation of two versions of a professionally-written report. Half of the seminar classes will be dedicated to preliminary presentations and discussion of projects, and the other half to discussing a specific theme.

The course will be graded on the basis of three main elements: (1) active participation in class discussions; (2) the professional-quality project to be drawn up, presented, defended and reviewed by each team; and (3) the evaluation each student makes of the individual contribution of other members of their team.
